When you’re choosing silly party games, you’re throwing out the rulebook when it comes to partying.

You’re definitely making a big statement about what kind of party planner you are.

That you love games that bring out the kid in us. That you love seeing your friends do odd things. And maybe embarrassing them a bit, right? Well, you’re not alone, because we also love silly games at Partycurrent.

Before we dive into the games, there are a few tips you need to think about first.

How to play silly party games safely

These games aren’t dangerous but they can be chaotic so it’s important to plan for them before you start playing.

Make sure you have plenty of space for game play. People might need to be running around so try and play in a local park or a local outdoor room you can rent, if you don’t have a backyard or a yard with lots of space.

If you’re playing indoors, make sure your space is safe. This means locking away any overhanging doors, hiding loose cables and removing furniture and other obstacles.

The objective of these games is to have fun. So brief your guests on this before you start, to root out any potential competitiveness. Anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable looking silly in front of others, let them opt out and come back in when they want.

Don’t be afraid to volunteer yourself in a game too, if the uptake of the initial round is low. Giving your friends the chance to laugh at you is a great way of helping them feel at ease with these games.

Okay, let’s get started with your silly party games.

Find the Bubble Gum

Give each guest a bowl with a piece of unwrapped bubble gum on it. Cover the gum in whipped cream. Players must feel around in the cream for their piece of gum. Except they can’t use their hands.

First player to find their gum, chew it and blow a bubble wins.

Forehead Pass the Orange

You’ll need two oranges and an obstacle-free space to play. Everyone splits into two even teams, each needing pairs of similar height.

The first pair of each team stands at the start line. Place an orange between each pair, gripped by their foreheads. On Go!, both pairs must run to the opposite wall, touch the wall, then return back the start. The orange is then passed (by hand) to their next team pair to take their turn.

As both pairs are running at the same time, check your room is wide enough. Players won’t be able to see where they’e going, so this stops them colliding.

If the orange is dropped, the pair must start again. The winning team is the one where all pairs have completed the course.

Bobbing for Apples

This game originated in the Middle Ages. To play, you’ll neeed fill a tub to the brim with water, then drop in some apples.

A player must pick out as many apples as they can with their teeth, with their hands tied behind their back.

You can make the game more challenging by using whipped cream or custard instead of water.

Pass the Parcel Fancy Dress

Stuff a sports bag with as many silly clothing items as you can find (or buy from thrift stores). These might include an old dress, wigs, long johns, weird hats.

Start the music and then when it stops, the person holding the bag must put on a random item. Then start the music again and pass the bag round. Once all the items are used up, ask everyone to vote which person has the Best Look of the game. Guests can rearrange how they wear their items, if they like, before voting.

Dangling Donuts

Love messy but silly party games? With Dangling Donuts, you’ll need plenty of donuts – plain, jellied and custard – and a ball of string, to play.

Attach the long bits of string to each donut. Hang the donuts from a clothes line, so they reach chin level. Now players must eat the dangling donut in the quickest time possible.

Court Jester

Get everyone together in a circle on the floor and pass around a Court Jester hat, as you play music.

When the music stops, the person with the hat must put it on, and perform something silly: a song, a joke, do a dance.

Belly Balloon Break

This game is played against the clock. Everyone is divided into pairs and must blow up at least 10 balloons per pair.

Set the clock, with each couple trying to pop as many balloons as they can within their time. Balloons can only be popped by squeezing it together between the players’ chests. Other parts of the body (hands, feet) are not allowed. The couple who pops the most balloons wins.

Potato, Spoon and Hump Race

To me, this game captures the craziness in silly party games.

You’ll need a raw small potato (in its skin), a spoon per player and plenty of room. Set up your humps along the course, e.g. rope to limbo under or skip over, a sequence of chairs to run around, a rolled up rug to hop over.

Line up each player at the start line with a potato balanced on their spoon. On Go!, players must race towards the finish, jumping the humps as they go. If their potato falls off, they must return to the start line and begin again. The winner is the first one at the finish.

You can also play a relay version, with players in two even teams. Players who finish will need to run back to the start to hand the potato to the next teammate.

Flour Tower

Pack a large dessert bowl in with flour, then turn it upside down on a plate, removing the bowl. Pop a jellybean on top of the mound.

Players now take it in turns to cut a slice of the flour, making sure not to move the jellybean. Whoever causes the mound collapse must pick up the jellybean with their mouth – from the flour.

Gargle a Song

Fill a glass, then sing a song. Everyone else must work out what it is. To make the game harder, have two people gargle a song together, with one person doing the verses, the other the chorus.

Sack Race Relay

Okay, here is the ultimate of silly party games: Get ready for SACK RACING.

You’ll need two old potato or coffee sacks to play, although two adult-sized sleeping bags will do. Outdoor space is also needed, like a long garden or an alleyway. Divide your players into two even teams.

String up a finish line using rope. Get the first player of each team into their sack

On Go!, each player must bounce their way down the race course to the finish. The player then removes the sack, run back to the start and hand it to the second player, who puts it on and takes their turn.

The winner is the first team where every player has bounced.

Make the most of this silly party game’s race course, add obstacles for players to bounce around, like a chair or hatstand. You can also tie little bells to the sack, so players chime as they play. Or swap the sacks – for buckets! Have players wear one on each foot.

Use obstacles for players to jump over or limbo under.

Honey, I Love You!

Get everyone on their feet and assembled in a circle. One player from the group goes around trying to make people smile, asking the first person, “Honey I Love You, Can You Give Me A Smile?”.

The person who is being asked the question has to reply saying with ” Honey I Love But I cant Give You a smile” and do it without smiling. If they smile then they have to be the one asking the question.

Egg Wibble Wobble

You need to provide a bike for this game and play outdoors. Give the player a big spoon with a hard boiled egg on it, then mount them on the bike and have them ride to the finish line without dropping it. You can play this game in 2 competing teams, with 2 riders on 2 bikes.

If you haven’t got a bike, you can use a skateboard or rollerskates. To make the game harder, you can add an obstacle course or blindfold the players and have them simply walk down a path.

How Small Can You Write Your Name

Love quiet silly party games? Try this one. You need a pen and paper. Each person has a go at writing their name – or a sentence – as small as they can.

In the first round, whoever does the smallest, everyone tries to write even smaller than that in the second round. But they must make sure that what they write everyone else can read. Whoever does it best in this round is the winner!

This is a good game, especially if your family name is not an English-sounding one or if it has lots of letters.

You can also make this game harder, by asking people to use different types of pens. For example, like a marker pen round, a fountain pen round. Or different thickness of pencils.

Musical Chairs

This is the most classic of silly party games. Make sure you have enough chairs for everyone but one person. When the music player stops the music, everyone has to rush and sit on a chair. Whoever doesn’t get to a chair quick enough is out because all the chairs are filled up (1 person per chair).

Now take away one chair and start the music again. When there is only 1 chair left, whoever sits in that chair first when the DJ stops the music wins.

High Heels Race

Break up the group into 2 people per team. Make sure everyone is either wearing socks or is bare foot. Every team gets one pair of high heels.

The person on the left wears one of the heels on their left foot, and the person on the right wears the right heel. Have each pair link arms and race to the finish! You can ask all of the teams to go against each other or have them go by pairs. A judge has the say of who wins in each race. Winners get a special prize.

Pin the Kiss on Your Favorite Actor

Need saucy but silly party games? Pin the Kiss… has it all.

This is great at parties where you’re drunk or have lots of horny guests. Hang a poster up of your favorite hot actor or actress high enough that people have to stand on their toes to reach the actor’s lips.

The first player is blindfolded, then given a coat of lipstick on their lips. Spin them 3 times on the spot, then put them in front of the poster. They’ve got to now kiss the actor’s lips.

When done, write their name under their kiss. Closest kiss wins.

Spin the Bottle Dodge or Dare

We spin the bottle and there are a certain amount of dodge and dare cards. You spin the bottle and if you get chosen then you pick a dare card; if you do not want to to do the dare then you pick a dodge card.

Once you pick a dodge card you may not go back to the dare card. If you really do not want to do the dodge or the dare, then you can forfeit – but then you will not be able to participate in the game.

The winner is the person with the most dare points. You get these dare points by completing dares – but you lose points by picking dodges.

Wipe Out Challenge

This silly party game’s best played if you have eiher a lot of water balloons, water pistols or hoses.

What you must do is set up outside a lot of obstacles on the track where you are playing e.g. Trampoline, scooters, hula hoops and balls, or even some times you might want to use your pool!

You normally have two people going at once and you can time each one or there will be a winner of each round and then there is the finals!

This game is always better with a lot of room to play outside.

Post It Note Challenge

Everyone splits into teams of 3 (it works best this way but you can choose to have as many as you like in a team).

Each team must choose one person to have the post-it notes stuck on them (give each team a pad of notes. You can buy them in them in the pound store).

On go, the people who don’t have post-it notes stuck on them must frantically try to stick as many post-it’s on the chosen team mate as possible.

The first team to stick all the post-it notes on their player wins.

Alternatively you can have a time limit to make the game quicker. Hope you enjoy playing this!

Who Is It?

Get everyone on their feet in a circle. Blindfold your first player and have them stand in the middle.

On Go!, they must reach out to the circle, and asks “who is it?”

The first person they nab must answer, only in a weird voice

If the blindfolded one guesses who this person is, the players swap for a new round

But if they guess incorrectly? The game continues until someone is caught.

Stomp the Balloon

If you have a large room, make sure to have more players, otherwise 5 players in each team is okay. Boys versus Girls is a good way to play.

You’ll need a ball of wool and a few balloons already blown up. Tie a string of wool around each balloon, with one end tied round the ankle of the player. On Go!, everyone tries to stomp their opponents’ balloon, to make them burst once.

If you tie your right ankle, try not to use your right foot, you’ll probably burst your own balloon. Happy stomping!

Poison Frog

Players sit in a circle with their eyes closed. One person (not playing game) chooses 1 Frog and 1 detective. No one should know the Frog except the frog himself. Everyone should know the detective.

Then players open their eyes and look around the circle. The detective stands in the middle of the circle trying to figure out who the frog is. The frog “kills” victims by sticking his/her tongue out quickly or winking at any person (besides the detective).

When a victim is “killed” or “poisoned” they must fall backwards (out of the circle). They must only fall 5 seconds after the Frog has “killed or poisoned” them.

Dicey Choc

Get everyone sat together in a circle. The first player is given a dice to pass around the group, while a huge slab of chocolate is placed in the middle with a knife and fork and a pair of socks.

The first person to throw a 6 on the dice gets to sit in the middle of the circle. They put the socks on their hands and start to try and eat the chocolate with a knife and fork until the next person throws a 6. The game continues until the chocolate is finished.

Potato Race

This silly party game’s definitely for outdoors. People get into twos, then blindfold half of the pair. Scatter some potatoes on the ground and give the blindfold halves 3 minutes to grab as many as they can. Their partner has to shout out directions to them.

They’ve got to carry as many potatoes in their arms then drop them in a bucket before getting more!

Balloon Volleyball

Unlike regular volleyball, using a balloon means you can play indoors without risk to furniture (or people). You can also play by sitting on the floor. String up a net (with rope or a long bedsheet), and divide into two equal teams.

Start the game, by instructing the first team with the balloon to hit it across the net to the next team. The other team then hits it back. If a team fails to hit the balloon, or the balloon hits the floor – the opposite team scores a point. Set a time limit for each round. The team with the highest score in a given series of rounds wins.

Malteser Game

Empty a bag of Maltesers (chocolate candy) into a bowl and place in the middle of the table. Give each player a straw and have them sit around it. Each player now has 30 seconds each to use their straw to suck and transport their Malteser from the bowl to their hand. The player with the most wins.

Whether you love silly party games or hate serious party games, you’ve got plenty of game ideas in this list. Silly games will instantly change up the atmosphere or any party and most of all, help create great memories.
